Just a little about “US!”

Azaan Gabriel Ahmed was born on November 27th, 2011 at 9:21 A.M. present were the following people (minus medical staff). Me, his 42yo mother: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I am also a blind American and have been both since birth. Azaan’s father and I have been married since 09/24/2010. He, originally from Pakistan, was attending his sister’s Nikka and Walima. thus, he had to hurry back and barely made it in time to hear Azaan’s first breath and to whisper the Islamic prayer into his ear. He is a frugal blind geek who tries to recruit other blind geeks through education. Azaan’s oldest sibling (and only sister), a rasberry chocolate C&W singing, cake baking, volleyball playing biracial 23yo woman who will be married five months later was also present and took the liberty of recording every moment of this event through text messaging. [I just know that Azaan will be a technogeek despite my best efforts]. We wouldn’t have even gotten to the hospital if it wasn’t for the unselfish acts of a former LDS who, by the way, will be my son-in-law in five months. My BFF [I always felt like she was my sister] (despite our differences because she is a fundamentalist Christian) was also my biggest supporter and lay doula for the labor. Also present was my sixteen-year-old niece who just happened to be visiting for the weekend so she could help me sort baby clothes. Later, Azaan’s older brothers; Captain Coach(who is 21yo and studying PT while being in the Navy), Mr. Basketball(who is 20yo and attending/playing Basketball for a JU/CO, hoping to go to a 4yr college and play basketball) and The Drum Diddler(a musically talented 19yo [his b-day is the 22nd of the same month] who still doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life) all made it up later on that day.
the characters and their personalities will make for a very interesting “growing up ” experience. Come read how we handle all of the differences. At the same time, we also have many of the joys and struggles that every parent / family will face. this is the start of Azaan’s life. And, I and my husband have been given the task of teaching and nourturing him from the first footprint into infancy to the path of adulthood. It will be a long journey. I hope to gain wisdom and share experiences with fellow travelers, along the way.
